With a total of 7.67 points, USP was elected the most entrepreneurial university in Brazil, with emphasis on Extension (1st place), Internationalization (2nd place) and Innovation (2nd place). The University maintains the USP Innovation Agency (Auspin) which, among other activities, promotes entrepreneurship through business incubators, technology parks and training. In partnership with Sebrae, Auspin serves the public through the “Disque Tecnologia”, an online service that provides answers to the technical questions of microentrepreneurs, creating a database.
In second place in the overall ranking, Unicamp obtained its best score in the Internationalization and Financial Capital aspects. The classification in the Internationalization aspect takes into account the international exchange rate in relation to the number of students, the number of quotations by faculty on international publications and number of co-authored international publications.
On the other hand, the Financial Capital aspect evaluates the ratio between institution’s overall income and the number of students.
PUC-Rio obtained a prominent evaluation in the Infrastructure segment, indicated as one of the most important factors for the university to be considered entrepreneurial. Quality of classrooms, library, computer and research laboratories, outdoor spaces, transportation, the availability and speed of the internet and the partnership between the university and the local Technological Park were evaluated.
With campuses in the cities of São Carlos, Araras, Sorocaba and Buri, in the state of São Paulo, UFSCar obtained its best score in the Extension segment. In addition to the number of extension projects and the number of students, this aspect evaluates the existence of networks and partnerships with student organizations with national representation such as Brazil Junior, Aiesec, Enactus and Rede CsF.
Ranked fifth in the general ranking, Universidade Federal do Ceará stood out in the Innovation category, reaching 9.54 points, out of 10. The proximity of the University with companies, through incubators, and the number of patent applications registered were the factors that contributed to the good classification.
A university with an entrepreneurial culture is one that creates and encourages the entrepreneurial attitude of its students and teachers. UFMG had its best score in this regard, which takes into account the number of entrepreneurship disciplines and the proactivity of its faculty and students to solve problems, taking risks and taking advantage of opportunities.
Universidade Federal de Viçosa has its origins in the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, in 1922. It currently has three campuses: Viçosa, Florestal and Rio Paranaíba, in Minas Gerais. Due to its tradition, the Agricultural Sciences area is one of the most developed in the UFV, being appreciated in Brazil and abroad. Despite the emphasis on farming, the institution has assumed an eclectic profile, expanding itself for other fields of knowledge.
Founded in 1961, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria was the first federal university located in Brazil’s countryside, a milestone for the internalization of university education in Brazil. It currently has five campuses, in the cities of Santa Maria, Silveira Martins, Frederico Westphalen, Palmeira das Missões and Cachoeira do Sul, all in Rio Grande do Sul state.
One of the highlights of Universidade Estadual de Maringá was its ranking in the Innovation aspect, with 7.64 points out of 10. This public institution is located in the northwest of Paraná state and was created in 1969. With its creation, the State School of Economic Sciences, State School of Law and Foundation Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Languages – the only colleges in the state back then – were added to UEM.
Located in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul, UFRGS is a centenary university, originated in 1895 with the Pharmacy, Chemistry and Engineering schools. The institution gained its university status in 1934 and currently around 40,000 people attend its buildings daily.
